What Are The Best Free Responsive WordPress Themes

Best Free Responsive WordPress Themes

Deciding what are the best free responsive wordpress themes are will ultimately make the difference of how long your visitor remains on your website. When creating a website, it is important to remember that visually it has to be attractive and more importantly, easy to read and follow.  Not only does your theme need to produce a website that supports easy to read content, it also must be easy for you to navigate and customise as you use it.  For this reason, I have derived to write a ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ around how to choose the best WordPress theme…

Divi WordPress Theme

Avoid Those ‘Fancy Pants’ Themes

It is very easy to get sucked into these ‘all singing, all dancing ‘Fancy Pants’ themes, in fact, these types of themes often take more time to learn and master, than many ‘standard’ WordPress themes.  Good examples of these themes are the Divi Theme, Visual Composer for example.  Don’t get me wrong , if you want to build a really professional website with all the bells and whistles in one theme, or you maybe building a website for a company or client, then go for these – but only once you have mastered them.  I have made this mistake when attempting to build a blogging site using Divi for example, there are literally TONS of feature and modules, and i felt like i needed a degree to master many of these functions.

Having said that, I have actually mastered the Divi Theme from Elegant Themes,  as a few client’s have acquired my services which required me to have more control over some aspects of their Websites, and for all intents and purposes Divi Theme enabled me to build a professional business looking site.   But in terms of building a website just for blogging etc, or a website just for promoting Wealthy Affiliate and maybe you are  building a website around a niche or interest, then many standard themes you get with WordPress will be more than suitable.  Keep watching this space, as I intend to write a Divi Theme review soon.

There Are Some Great Free Themes Out There

If you are a free or indeed a Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate, then you will have access to 1000s of quality WordPress themes.  Again, when choosing these free themes make sure they fit the following criteria:-

  • Visually appealing
  • Easy to navigate
  • Good widget support (some themes do not support specific widgets)
  • Customisable
  • Includes Social Media ‘Follow’ icons

So What Are The Best Free Responsive WordPress Themes?

I cannot possibly say with any conviction what the best free WordPress theme is.  Wordpress Themes are very individual and unique in their own right.

Well, there are some great free themes that I do recommend are:-

  • Weaver II
  • Iconic One
  • Total
  • Twenty Fifteen
  • Twenty Seventeen

‘Paid For’ Premium WordPress Themes

Many free WordPress Themes are great as they are, but many include more functions and features when you update to their ‘Premium’ version.  These extra features may include social media plugins, and more customisable options etc.  If you like the free version of a theme and use it alot , then sometimes it is a sensible idea and even cost effective to upgrade to their premium version for that reason.

I have already mentioned the Divi Theme and Visual Composer to name just a couple, and these themes in particular can produce some really great looking websites.  But there are many Premium themes which are worth a look.  Some of which are:-

  • Divi 3.0
  • Visual Composer
  • Eleven40 Pro Theme
  • Thrive Themes
  • Parallax One

Final Thoughts

Whilst it is widely known that WordPress itself is very easy to master, choosing the right theme for your blog is essential.  But how do you choose the best free responsive wordpress themes ?

Well, as explained, keeping things simple is the best way forward when choosing a WordPress theme, thus avoiding those ‘Fancy Pants’ themes and page builders.  Sometimes it pays to do some research and what themes other folk are using, and there are plenty of advice within the Wealthy Affiliate Community relating to this.  I hope you have found my post helpful, and I would be very grateful if you can leave a comment below.  Thanks for reading!

  1. Great Information and good choices for some Free WordPress themes, I would suggest you add a little information on how to change a theme without starting all over, or if you decide that the theme is not working for and want to change.

  2. This was a great information about themes and how to choose them for your niche.

I personally have the theme “Twenty Thirteen” and so far I am still ok with it.

However, I am considering to change the theme to “Twenty Seventeen” so I do think I will do better with the new one.

Thanks for all the great information, appreciated.

    • Hi Sylvia,
To be honest, there is not much difference between Twenty Thirteen & Twenty Seventeen themes. I think it all comes down to personal preference, both themes are very good.
      Thanks for your comment.

  3. You have done an excellent job on the choice of themes. This idea haunts everyone who is building a website whether pro or beginner.

Beginners mostly find the choice of themes difficult as they are new to the field, and therefore, want you to add one specific recommendation.

    • Hi Phomrong,
Thanks for your advice. I will certainly take that on board but really Theme selection can be a personal thing. As long as the theme meets the criteria I have mentioned in my post then what ever theme is selected will be fine.
      Best Regards,
      Tim
